It’s that time of year again; festival season is in full swing folks! And just 6 sleeps until Kendal Calling 2019!
We’ve been maniacally checking the weather report, planning multiple outfits; for rain, sun (and everything in between) and getting generally over-excited about the prospect of hanging out in a field with likeminded people — and brilliant entertainment — for a few days.
This is a first for us; it’s one of the few long-running festivals that we’ve not been to.
So — you can imagine — excitement levels are high.

A Brief History of Kendal Calling
Kendal began in 2006 and has had a couple of ‘homes’ before settling in it’s current location.
This year marks the festival’s 10th year at Lowther Deer Park and, over the last decade, Kendal Calling has seen all sorts of amazing acts; from Dizzee Rascal to Blondie, Basement Jaxx to London Grammar.

This year looks to be pretty epic too!
Kendal Calling 2019 is hosting a stellar cast; Orbital, Miles Kane, Nile Rogers & Chic, Years & Years, Doves, Manics, Gerry Cinnamon…. Tom actual Jones. To name a few.
I could go on and on.
The line up is impressive.
Particularly as I haven’t even touched on the other venues; that’s just a sample of the talent on the main stage!
And, main stage aside, there are 13 other areas to explore.
The Glow Tent — for some t.u.n.e.s.
Woodlands — for more first-rate bands and a silent disco.
And if you just want to zone out for half and hour and switch off from the festival mayhem, you can head to The Garden of Eden for a hot tub, yoga or a massage.
And for the littles?
Calling All Kids
There’s no worries there. Kendal Calling is perfect for families with children.
They have a specially designed area — Kids Calling — where a range of age-appropriate activities are laid on for mini Kendal Callers (aged 0-11) including craft workshops, circus skills, face painting, story-telling and much more.
The theme for Kendal Calling 2019 is all things ‘jurassic’; so little ones will be able to dig for dinosaur bones, discover Neolithic cave art, bowl a monolith at ‘strikehenge’.
As well as following the prehistoric treasure trail and watching the ‘Kids Calling’ volcano erupt.
On Saturday afternoon we’ll take a trip to the Dino Village; where we might find Jurassic-inspired games, face painting, art and crafts, competitions and general silliness.
Plus, there’s also Tiny Tim Peaks, where Alex Winters from CBeebies will be hosting craft sessions, games and story-time with special guests, music and more festival fun.
Looking at these images makes me feel like a kid at Christmas.
We’ve headed off to Dorset for the last weekend of July, for the last 4 years, so to be driving in the opposite direction — and heading north — to something new and different feels really exciting.
I love the thrill of exploring an unfamiliar festival site; getting our bearings and having a wander.
But, for now, we have just 6 Sleeps until Kendal Calling 2019!
