Our Cool Caravans in Print!

Our cool caravans — Dolly 1 and Dolly Too (that isn’t a spelling error, by the way, she was Dolly ‘also’) — were featured in Reloved magazine!

SO amazing to see our two little caravans immortalised in print. I was expecting a little mention but incredibly there was a 4 page article on the two Dollys!

It makes me feel so proud to see our caravan makeover projects in the pages of a magazine.

But even prouder to receive so many lovely messages from people, to say that our caravan makeovers have inspired them to do the same with their own vans.

How to Turn Your Tourer into a Cool Caravan

To give your touring caravan the edge and make it into a real home for home, you can consider the following ideas and tips:

1 Exterior Design:

  • Choose a modern and eye-catching colour scheme for the exterior.
  • Paint the outside of your caravan using my tips.
  • Add stylish decals or graphics to create a unique look.

2 Interior Design:

  • Decorate the interior of your caravan.
  • Paint the woodwork and cupboards in your van.
  • Use the same kind of quality and durable materials you’d use in your own home. Such as faux leather, sleek metal accents, and high-quality fabrics.
  • Incorporate smart storage solutions to maximise space and keep things organised.
  • Install modern appliances and fixtures, including a sleek kitchenette, a stylish bathroom, and efficient lighting.
  • Consider wallpapering the walls of your caravan. Create a statement wall or or decorative wallpapers.

3 Comfort and Entertainment:

  • Invest in comfortable and stylish furniture with plush cushions and modern upholstery.
  • Install a high-quality sound system and a large flat-screen TV for entertainment.
  • Incorporate smart home features, such as voice-controlled lighting and temperature control, for added convenience.

4 Technology and Connectivity:

  • Install solar panels or a generator for sustainable power supply during camping trips.
  • Ensure the caravan has up to date sockets and switches. You can even include charging ports for electronic devices.
  • Consider integrating smart devices like a voice assistant or a smart home hub for automation and control.

5 Outdoor Accessories:

  • Enhance the exterior with accessories such as awnings, colourful outdoor rugs and stylish patio furniture.
  • Add bike racks or roof storage options to accommodate outdoor gear.
  • Install an outdoor cooking area with a barbecue grill or a compact kitchenette for alfresco dining experiences.

6 Personalisation and Customisation:

  • Incorporate personal touches like artwork, photographs or decorative items that reflect your style and interests.
  • Take fresh flowers with you when you camp!

7 Get Inspired By Current Trends

  • Interior design blogs, magazines Pinterest and Instagram are great for inspiration.
  • You can really go to town when decorating a caravan interior. Bold styles in small spaces work really well — like our downstairs loo! Don’t be scared of trying new things.

Touring in Style

There used to be such a stigma surrounding touring caravans.

And they have certainly always been regarded as the poor relation when it comes to VW campers, that’s for sure.

Campervans have an air of cool about them whereas caravans have always been seen to be a little bit dowdy and —dare-I-say-it — embarrassing.

Not any more though.

People are swiftly realising that campervans and motorhomes are costly to run; you have to pay road-tax, insurance, MOT.

Plus there’s the inconvenience of getting to your destination and setting up — only to have to put everything away again if you want to pop to the shops.

Caravans are trailers.

So there’s no road-tax and you don’t have to pay for motor insurance.

Plus once you’ve got to where you want to be, you can simply unhook your car and drive away without disturbing your camp.

Plus caravanning is totally moving with the times. Gone are the boring little white boxes, with a sea of wooden veneer inside. These days — as we’ve done with both our caravans — you can paint and decorate the interior (and exterior) to suit you.

From laughing stock to cool kid on the block — caravans are moving up in the world!
