The Modius Review {Part 2 — How To Use the Modius Headset}

‘This is a paid partnership with Modius’

It’s been 7 and a half weeks since I began trialling the Modius weight-loss headset. I’ve had lots of interest from friends and family — and readers of my blog — asking for updates. So I thought I’d share my recent thoughts. Plus a step by step guide for new users, who want to know how to use the Modius headset.

As I said in my first post, I really, really didn’t like the sensation initially.

It’s really hard to describe; but — to me — it feels like when you’ve been on a ferry and finally reach dry land. Even though you’re stationary, you feel as though you’re still moving.

It’s the oddest sensation.

That said, it’s not odd enough for me to stop using it; and Modius is definitely part of my nightly routine now.

Here’s what I do.

How To Use the Modius Slim Headset

1. Firstly, I get everything I need in one place; all my Modius Slim Kit — including the Modius headset, alcohol wipes, sticky pads, and phone.

Plus a glass of water and something to occupy me for an hour; generally a book or the TV. I’ve read of people using their Modius headset whilst they’re putting makeup on in a morning.

But, personally,  it makes me feel quite lethargic so — for me — evenings are the best time to use it.

I find the swaying sensation is less pronounced when I’m sitting still and occupied.

2. Next, I take an alcohol wipe. Then break open the sealed packet and rub it on the skin of the bony area just behind my ear.

3. I wait for the area to dry then take two self adhesive gel pads.

I peel off the backing and press them firmly behind each ear. Waiting a couple of minutes for them to adhere properly.

4. I take the Modius headset and switch it on; you know it’s working properly as you hear it beep and the light will come on.

5. Then I connect the headset to the sticky press-studs behind my ears.

6. Once that’s done I’ll pair up the Modius headset with the app on my phone. Then press start and move up the levels to where I feel most comfortable.

Generally speaking, I use it on level 5.

7. Next, all there is to do is sit and relax.

Read a book, watch the TV… take the opportunity to sit still for an hour. It’s a rarity, so I’m quite enjoying taking advantage of it!!

How Does Modius Slim Feel?

I find there’s often a prickling sensation on the area that I’ve placed the pads; but it wears off quite quickly.

And I always feel a muscular, jumping sensation behind my ears. It reminds me very much of a Slendertone  ab-exerciser I had years ago; it’s the same kind of involuntary muscle spasm.

It’s weird and a little unpleasant but you soon get used to it. And if you’re occupied by a good book or a box-set (Game of Thrones anyone?!) the time passes very quickly.

Before I know it, the headset beeps again to let me know that I’m finished. This is confirmed by a message on the app too.

So Does Modius Work?

Well — and I’m sorry if I’m sitting on the fence here but — I still feel that it’s too early to tell.

There are a couple of positives (but also a couple of negatives) that I’d like to share though.

a — I haven’t lost any weight yet (apart from the initial 1.5lb).

b — When using the higher levels for a consistent number of days, I began experiencing the same dizzy/swaying sensation. The one that occurs when you’re wearing the headset — throughout the day, when I wasn’t using Modius.

I spoke to the team at Modius about this; they advised to drop the levels down and maybe have a rest for a couple of days; starting again on a lower level.

I’ve done this and it seems to have done the trick.

a — I took Modius to California. And wore it almost every day of the two and a half weeks we were away; (even on the flights there and back).

Generally when we go on holiday — especially to the USA — I pile weight on.

But when we got home, despite all the rich (and plentiful) food I’d eaten, it turned out that I’d put on just 1lb.

Now, I can’t be 100% sure if that was down to the Modius headset; or as a result of all the walking we did whilst we were away. But I was pretty happy with that!!

b — My appetite seems to have decreased. And I’m definitely snacking less throughout the day.  Plus — Modius make me feel quite thirsty (weirdly enough) so I’m drinking loads and loads of water.

I fill up a 1.5L bottle in the morning and by around 4pm, I’m filling it up again.

One thing’s for sure, even though I’m not losing any weight yet; my skin is feeling the benefit of all the water. And the cellulite on my thighs is looking less pronounced too.

So there we are. The second part of my Modius review and a little guide on how to use the Modius headset.

I’m sorry I don’t have anything more exciting to say at this stage.

I wish I was seeing more of a difference on the scales; but I’m still keeping an open mind and hoping that I’ll see a change in that department in the next few weeks.

    • I don’t think there’s any point dressing things up when it comes to reviews — no-one would ever believe anything I wrote! I wish I had something more groundbreaking to say! Weirdly, I’m looking less wobbly — but that might be to do with the amount of water I’m drinking; I wish I’d see a shift on the scales though. Hopefully that will come in the next month! :)

  1. I would love to be able to read whilst I use it – I still cant get over level five and feel really sick! I have lost 1kg which is a start!

    • Well done on your weight loss Jen! I’m sorry you’re still feeling sick when you use it —

I’m still only on a fairly moderate level too — most days I’m on 5 or 6, which enables me to read or watch TV. I hope the nausea passes for you soon!!
