For the last four years — during the last week of July — we’ve made our annual pilgrimage down to Dorset for Camp Bestival.

We arrive on the Thursday afternoon and generally leave on the Monday; never setting foot outside the grounds of Lulworth Castle.

It’s one of my favourite weeks of the year; something that I look forward to so much.

But as it takes us quite a few hours to get down to Dorset, last year we decided to stay for the week following the festival; to make the most of what Dorset has to offer.

The Jurassic Coast

In the week that we were visiting, we were totally spoilt for things to do — we could have definitely stayed for longer. Especially as the weather was so beautiful.

There are picturesque villages, with chocolate-box cottages; plus heaths, woodland and the downs which offer so much scope for outside adventures.

Dorset offers miles and miles of footpaths and bridleways — that span the entire county — so we could really make the most of the beautiful countryside.

On the south border is the Jurassic Coast; England’s natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, with cliffs displaying 185 million years of geology.

The long stretch of beach there is a brilliant place to go fossil hunting — something that little kids and adults alike can enjoy.

We visited Swanage and Bournmouth; ate fish and chips out of the paper on the beach. The boys made sand castles and we generally had the loveliest time.

Holiday Cottages in Dorset

We definitely came to the conclusion that there’s a lot more to Dorset than Camp Bestival!

Last summer, we stayed in Dolly — which was fine for the four of us — but next time we’re planning to go with extended family, so want to book something a little bit more substantial.

Wyke Dorset Cottages are a great port of call for holiday accommodation in Dorset. They’ve got so much choice; everything from dinky coastal cottages for couples to large — dog friendly — houses for huge groups.

You can specify your search criteria; whether you want a sea view — or to have a pub close by — or a swimming pool in the garden, they’ve got a great choice.

And if you still can’t decide,  their lovely team are on hand to help you find your perfect holiday spot.

I’m thinking a games room for the kids and a hot tub for me.

Perfect.

Hurry up end of term, we’re so ready for you!
