Looking for an honest review of Montcalm East, Shoreditch? A couple of my friends — Amy from Everything Mummy and Sarah from Extraordinary Chaos — and I had been invited by Mumsnet to do a little filming job at their Workfest event, which took place last weekend in London.
Although Workfest was on Saturday, with Sarah coming down from Lancashire and Amy travelling up from Dorset, we decided to book a hotel for Friday night so we didn’t have to rush the next day.
The event was in Euston Square, so we chose the Montcalm East; just a stone’s throw away from where we needed to be and — quite possibly — one of the most fabulous hotels I’ve ever stayed in (and there have been some amazing ones over the years that’s for sure).

Welcome to The Montcalm East, Shoreditch London
We’d booked a junior suite — perfect for the three of us — which worked out at less than £60 a head, with entrance to the Club Lounge, spa and a continental breakfast included.
Good ha?
The Montcalm is a couple of minutes walk from Old Street tube station, based in an extraordinary looking building. We were greeted on the front desk by Sanjeev — full of smiles — giving us the perfect introduction to our home from home.
On booking we’d chosen our room scent; (basil and lime, in case you were wondering) and also selected the pillows we’d like to sleep on.
Little touches like this make the world of difference when you’re staying away from home, don’t they? We knew we were in for a treat before we even got there.
And it really didn’t disappoint.
The Rooms at Montcalm Shoreditch London
Our room was amazing. Based on the 13th floor we had a spectacular view of the city and more gadgets in the room than the Apple store. A huge TV, mood lighting, music — all actioned by electronic remote controls — plus lots of lovely treats too.
Hermes toiletries plus macarons and truffles, fresh fruit and fresh bottled water — as standard. There was also an expresso machine (complete with complimentary pods) plus a very well stocked mini bar.
The Club Lounge at Montcalm East
Once we’d unpacked, the girls and I skipped off down to the West End for a little retail therapy. Then back to the Montcalm for a drink and a snack, in the Club Lounge.
This is literally a bloggers dream. So many beautiful things to take photos of — the other residents probably thought we were all mad.
If you’re not into beautiful floral arrangements and fantastic interiors though, don’t despair, their cocktail list and snack menu is divine. And Adam and his team were such brilliant hosts — nothing was too much trouble.
What Tube Sation is Montcalm Shoreditch Near?
Old Street station is the nearest one to M by Montcalm East.
Shoreditch is such a vibrant part of London — so many lovely bars and restaurants — but my compadres and I decided to make the most of our stay in the Montcalm and eat in one of their restaurants.
We chose the Urban Coterie.
A gorgeously stylish setting at the top of the hotel, with an open kitchen so you can see the chefs preparing your food, should you fancy watching a little real-life Masterchef-ery.
Dinner at Montcalm East
Dinner was heavenly.
I had crab to start, followed by cod then the most delicious pudding I’ve eaten in a long while!! A custard tart. Sounds simple but it was to die for. Worth going back again just for that to be honest.
The food, combined with excellent service from Ermina and Annalise, made our evening stress free and memorable.
Breakfast at Montcalm East
The next morning we we had a fab continental breakfast, back in the Club Lounge.
Fresh fruit and pastries, cereals, meats and cheeses. A really lovely start to the day and a good chance for us to make a plan for the day ahead.
The Spa at Montcalm Shoreditch London
Then Amy and Sarah went off to the spa whilst I bimbled about, back in our room, and painted my nails.
I don’t seem to have much spare time for things like that, since I had the twins, so it was a real treat to have an hour to myself.
I did pop down with them quickly, to have a look though and made a mental note to book in for a treatment, the next time I’m lucky enough to have a weekend away!
In Conclusion — What Did I Really Think of Montcalm East?
Although the girls and I were staying on a business trip I would love to come back again. Preferably with my boy; for a romantic, child-free weekend in London.
The Montcalm East s such a fabulous hotel. The bed and pillows were the comfiest I’ve ever slept on away from home. And the girls and I all agreed that we all had the best night’s sleep we’d had in ages.
If you’re looking for a base in London, I highly recommend the Montcalm East.
Easy access to the West End for a show or shopping. Or if you fancy a little spa weekend their Versace designed spa is heavenly.
But, to be honest, even just holing yourself up indoors with a movie (on that gigantic TV) and ordering in some room service would be perfect.
I can’t wait to visit again!
The girls and I paid for our stay at the Montcalm Shoreditch London Tech City; but were generously treated to dinner and cocktails by the team there.
