Have you ever created a rainbow flower arrangement? A couple of weeks ago I was asked by the lovely folk at Rose and Grey to take part in a styling challenge.
Now, you know me, I love a challenge. And, particularly, when the challenge involves something ‘interiors’ — or homes — related, I’m there like a shot!
The task sounded simple on the face of it; three little ‘Wild Flower Jam Jar’ vases, styled in any way you choose.
Rose & Grey loved what their stylist had done with the press shots of the vases but were asking bloggers to come up with alternative ideas.

Plain And Simple
Sometimes the more you think about things the more complicated they can become, so my plan of attack was not to ponder on it for too long and just go with my gut.
I love the original shot of the jam jars but wanted to create something totally different.
As the press image was styled very simply — with white flowers and fresh green foliage — I decided that I wanted to go totally the opposite way and use lots of colour.
But which colour?
Another challenging aspect of this task was to choose wild-flowers and, as the garden isn’t in bloom quite yet, I was slightly nervous as to whether there would be enough in our garden to create a shot with colour.
But I needn’t have worried.
Our lovely garden supplied me with plenty of options. So many, actually, that I couldn’t decide what colour to go with. So, in the end, I went with all of them.
A Rainbow of Flowers
The Styling Challenge Answered
A beautiful collection of imperfectly perfect blooms; blossom, berries, foliage and flowers, all generously provided by the garden.
Flowering currant and rose-hips, Hyacinths, vivid violet Lobelia and some purple tinged foliage from a Hebe. Silver green Rosemary and zesty colour provided by Berberis, Tulips, Daffodils and Forsythia.
I think each of the jars look beautiful when sat alone. They’re such a lovely size and perfect for little handpicked posies. But when grouped together, they suddenly take on a totally different dimension. A rainbow flower arrangement if you will.
Nature’s answer to the grey, dull winter. A rainbow of spring colour — from my very own garden.

I love the first ones but those colour combinations are stunning! I particularly like the second one full of autumnal blossoms…. reminds me of my wedding flowers.
Stunning xx xx
Thanks Katie :) It was a really difficult challenge!! As I’m not a stylist or a photographer, I didn’t really have any idea what I was doing but it worked out well in the end!! Really happy with my rainbow of flowers! :)
omg Caro you are so spectacularly creative, your photography is stunning, I love this post and you beautiful photos x
Thanks so much Sarah — that’s such a lovely thing to say!! I was a bit nervous when the jars arrived, initially, cos I’ve never done any kind of ‘flower arranging’ before!! LOL! So glad it all looked lovely in the end. Thank goodness the garden came up trumps! :)
What an absolutely stunning blog post, your photos are just beautiful!!! :-) #sharewithme

Thank you so much :) Initially I was a bit worried but the flowers look so lovely together. The little vases are brilliant aren’t they? x
You have done fantastic, they are great shots and I LOVE the use of colour with them. They are such simple little pots but look great now!
Thanks Steph! It was a real challenge to be honest!! I’ve never done any flower arranging in my life — apart from a bunch of tulips in a vase at home!! So happy it all looked OK!! ;)
Thanks so much Steph!! It was a definite challenge, that’s for sure! I really enjoyed it but you can see why stylists are stylists for a living!! ;) It’s not as easy as it looks!!
Stunning. You have an amazing eye. I would serve cocktails in these! #sundaystars
That’s lovely of you Karen — thanks so much!! I was winging it to be honest… although I used to art direct, I had photographers and stylists doing all the hard work!! It’s not easy, thats for sure! They certainly earn their money!! :)
Ooh this post is divine, such beautiful blooms. I always leave your blog so happy! x
Thanks so much Vixter — that means a lot coming from you :) So happy the garden had enough ‘fodder’! I was starting to despair initially but it was all there, just dotted about all over the garden!! Looks so beautiful when it’s brought all together.
I love every photo! They are so chic and so clear and I love macro shots forever! #sharewithme
Thank you Merlinda, that’s so kind of you to say! It was a really fun challenge!
Wow, the 3 of them look stunning together. You’ve obviously got a great garden to have all of these
Thanks so much Emma. Initially I thought the garden looked quite bare! It’s only when you look closely that you see all these little bits of colour that are dotted all over. They look lovely all together, I think xx
oh wow what beautiful pictures caro I love them all so much the colours just pop these must be looking beautiful in you house!
They’re just starting to die now Amy — it’s a bit sad. But I’m looking forward to replacing them with something else! :)
