Easy Salt Dough Recipe — Using Just Three Ingredients
This easy salt dough recipe only uses three ingredients! Its super simple to make and because it’s non-toxic, it’s safe for kids of all ages to use and play with.
In the past I’ve used this recipe to make play pizzas for the boys’ toy kitchen, but in this instance I am sharing how to make salt dough Easter decorations.
How To Make Salt Dough Easter Decorations
1. Once you’ve created your salt dough, using the recipe above, roll it out — about 5mm thickness — then start to cut out your shapes.
2. I have some little egg and chick cutters but you could use anything — bunnies, flowers — you could even be a maverick and go freehand, with a knife!
If you’re going to hang your decorations, or use them as gift tags, remember to make a hole in each one.
I used the end of a drinking straw to do this.
3. Carefully lay then shapes on a baking sheet (I find a palette knife is the best way to do this).
4. Lay your salt dough ornaments on a baking tray and cook in the oven on a low heat.
I cook ours at 100 degrees for 1 hour, then turn them over and cook for a further hour. After 2 hours, I turn the oven off but leave the dough shapes to carry on baking with the residual heat.
5. Paint your salt dough decorations! This is the bit I love the best!
What paint To Use on Your Salt Dough Decorations
You can use all kinds of paint; I find water based paints are the best option.
Poster, gouache, acrylic. Even emulsion! Use those tester pots up and create something lovely.
I also use glitter glaze to give our ornaments extra pizazz!
6. Leave them to dry and once they’re ready, you can hang use them to decorate the home.
