Ever wondered how to top up vitamin d? I‘ve found that getting outside is one of the best ways to keep my spirits up during winter. There are so many lovely activities you can do — even on the greyest days.
I took the boys (and nana) pumpkin picking one dingy autumn day. Spending a little time in the fresh air is a great way to make yourself feel better — and shrug off the winter blues.

Vitamin D from Sunlight
Lack of sunlight can equal low vitamin D intake — and I always feel a bit out-of-sorts when my body is lacking in something.
Public Health England actually advise that everyone needs an average daily intake of 10 micrograms of Vit D (10µg), to protect their bone and muscle health.
Whilst you get a lot of vitamin D from sunlight, during the spring and summer, the Department of Health experts now recommend that during autumn and winter we should all consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of Vitamin D.
With this in mind, I take a multivitamin every day.
And I’ve also begun to give the boys a child-friendly version — each morning — with their breakfast.
What Happens When Your Body is Lacking Vitamin D?
According to NHS England: ‘Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body.’
These nutrients are needed to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy.
A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone deformities such as rickets in children, and bone pain caused by a condition called osteomalacia in adults.
How Do I Give my Child More Vitamin D?
Bassetts have a range of vitamins for children — including some Multivitamins plus Vitamin D and Calcium, especially for 3-6 years olds.
They have all the benefits of a standard multivitamin; but the added Vitamin D and Calcium support the twins’ growth and development and make sure their levels remain constant; throughout the winter months.
You’d think that a four year old would balk at taking a multivitamin every day but these little Bassetts Multivitamins plus Vitamin D and Calcium cleverly masquerade as a soft, chewy little peach and apricot flavoured pastille.
So they not only help to support healthy muscle function, healthy teeth and healthy bones but they taste delicious and the boys love them.
And, what’s more, they’re made with natural flavours and colours (with absolutely no added sugar).
As well as getting out in the daylight, the Bassetts vitamins a brilliant way of ensuring that Bertie and Cosmo are getting everything they need, vitamin-wise, which means less sniffles and more energy.
More energy = more fun.
I’ve made a little film, to go with this post; talking about kids’ health — and the benefits of vitamins — as part of Bassetts #NoDullDays campaign.
