Colour Your World | #14 Pantone Woodbine

The 14th colour in my spring/summer 2015 colour series is ‘Pantone Woodbine’.

I LOVE this colour. It’s a little greener than it’s yellow-rich counterpart — chartreuse — and it’s one of my favourites to wear.

I perhaps call it ‘olive green’ rather than Woodbine though.

But hey — who am I to argue!?

Leatrice Eisman from The Pantone Institute describes it as:

‘A tropical green that could best be described as nature’s neutral. A classic yellow-green that could be used with anything and everything’.

‘Pantone Woodbine is a hue of foliage, grass and growing plants. Inexorably linked to our sense of smell; Woodbine is evocative of a freshly mown lawn or a flourishing palm frond.’

I’ve already got quite a lot of this shade in my wardrobe so I thought I’d take a look at homeware this time.

When I look at this colour it immediately transports me back to the 1980s as it’s reminiscent of avocado bathroom suites and vintage Tuppaware that my mum used to have.

It’s lovely to see it making a little comeback in modern home furnishings and accessories though! That said, the lamp and vase  in the grid below take me straight back to being a child again.

I have put a little board together with some more ‘Woodbine’ inspired picks and one of my favourite images on there is a lifestyle shot by Multiyork.

It offers a perfect example of how this shade can be styled for modern day living.

Gorgeous deep green walls, lifted with botanical inspired prints. I think in this case, more is definitely more and it works beautifully.

The Versatility of Pantone Woodbine

As I was pinning to the board it made me realise just what Leatrice Eisman meant by ‘a colour that can be used with anything and everything’.

It has been paired with Calamine pink, the deepest charcoal grey, moody blues and vibrant raspberry.

And it works perfectly with all of them.

It’s a rare thing to find such a versatile colour, that’s for sure. I think we’ll be seeing more of it as the year rolls on.
